Frequently Asked Questions

It's probably the last thing on your mind but if you don't want to risk getting pregnancy again right away, you need to think about contraception...

Since you can be fertile again within weeks of your baby's birth, you'll need to start thinking about birth control even before you're ready to start having sex again.

Can I still get pregnant even though I'm breastfeeding?

Some people think that breastfeeding will provide adequate contraception. It won't. You can get pregnant without ever having another period after you've had a baby and start breast feeding.

What's the best contraception to use if I want to have another baby in the future?

If you know you want to get pregnant again, a long-term, reversible contraceptive is best. If you want something reliable until you're ready to try and get pregnant again, something like the IUS is best. Plus, you can forget about your contraception and concentrate on your new baby until you decide to try for another.
