Emergency Contraception

There are lots of different methods of contraception to choose from - they're all free and they can all stop you from getting pregnant if used correctly.

If you have sex without using contraception or think that your method might not have worked, there are two methods you can use...

The emergency hormonal pill – this must be taken up to three days (72 hours) after sex. It's more effective the earlier it's taken after sex so the sooner the better.

An IUD – this must be fitted up to five days after sex, or up to five days after the earliest time you could have released an egg (ovulation).

You can get more advice on this by visiting your GP, a contraception clinic or sexual health clinic, or by giving us a call.
